Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about clinical trials, participation, study visits, and what to expect at Novum Research.

Before You Take Part

What is a clinical trial?−

A clinical trial is a research study designed to evaluate potential treatments, medications, or approaches to managing a health condition. Clinical trials follow a detailed research plan and are conducted under established safety and ethical standards.

Why should I consider participating in a clinical trial?+

People participate for different reasons. You may be interested in accessing an investigational treatment, receiving additional study-related medical attention, or contributing to research that may help improve future treatment options. Participation is always voluntary.

How do I know if I qualify for a study?+

Each study has its own eligibility requirements. Our research team will ask you questions about your health, medications, and medical history. If you appear to be a potential candidate, we may schedule a screening visit and review relevant medical records to determine eligibility.

What is an investigational treatment?+

An investigational treatment is being studied to learn more about its safety, effectiveness, dosing, or other characteristics. It may not yet be approved by the FDA for the condition being studied.

Will I definitely receive the investigational treatment?+

Not necessarily. Some clinical trials compare an investigational treatment with a placebo or another treatment. If a study uses randomization or a placebo, this will be clearly explained during the informed consent process.

What is a placebo?+

A placebo is designed to look like the study treatment but does not contain the investigational medicine. Not every clinical trial uses a placebo. If the study does, you will be informed before deciding whether to participate.

What is informed consent?+

Informed consent is the process of learning about a clinical trial before deciding whether to participate. Our team will review the study's purpose, procedures, potential risks and benefits, alternatives, and your rights. You will have an opportunity to ask questions before making a decision.

How do I get started?+

Contact Novum Research and tell us which study or health condition you are interested in. A member of our research team can complete an initial pre-screening and discuss potential next steps with you.

While You Are Taking Part

Does it cost anything to participate?−

There is generally no cost to participants for study-specific medications, visits, or procedures required by the research study. What is provided varies by study, and our team will explain any potential costs before you decide to participate.

Will I be paid for participating?+

Some studies provide compensation for time and travel. Compensation varies by study and will be explained to you before you agree to participate.

What happens during a study visit?+

Visits vary depending on the study. They may include meeting with the research team, reviewing your health and medications, physical examinations, blood or urine collection, questionnaires, or other study-specific procedures. You will be told what to expect before each visit.

How long does a clinical trial last?+

Every study is different. Some last several weeks or months, while others may continue for a year or longer. Before enrolling, our team will explain the study schedule, expected number of visits, and overall time commitment.

Can I leave a clinical trial after I enroll?+

Yes. Participation is voluntary. You may decide to stop participating at any time. The research team can discuss the safest way to discontinue study participation when applicable.

Will participating affect my regular medical care?+

Joining a research study does not replace your regular healthcare. Depending on the study, our research team may work with your healthcare providers when appropriate and with your authorization.

Do I need health insurance to participate?+

Insurance requirements vary by study. Many study-related procedures and treatments are provided by the study sponsor. Our team can explain whether insurance is relevant to a particular study before you participate.

How is my medical information protected?+

Novum Research follows applicable privacy requirements and research regulations designed to protect participants' personal and medical information. During informed consent, you will receive information explaining how your data may be collected, used, and shared for the research.

What happens if I experience a side effect?+

You should report any new symptoms or changes in your health to the research team. Our clinical staff will evaluate the situation and follow the study's safety procedures. You will also receive instructions on how to contact the study team if you have a medical concern during participation.
